All of us have a story to tell and a legacy to leave. Below are inspiring stories of faithful supporters like you. Each has included World Vision in their estate plan so they can continue to support World Vision after their lifetime - it's their legacy of love to the world's children.
Carolyn Derr, North Carolina
Part of the World Vision family since 1999
Though Carolyn doesn't remember when or how she first learned about World Vision child sponsorship, she is more than enthusiastic about the kids she now sponsors. "I have their pictures on the refrigerator along with those of my grandchildren." she shares. "When you are helping on an individual basis, like with sponsorship, you feel connected."
Carolyn's interest in sponsorship stems from her desire to make a difference. She enjoys giving to causes that she believes in. "I feel good helping organizations that are doing good around the world," she says.
Carolyn enjoys including her family in her experience as well. "For several years, I have given animals at Christmas through the World Vision Gift Catalog. I ask my grandchildren to look through the catalog and see what they would like to give, a lamb, a chicken, or something like that," she explains.
"My husband provided well for me so that I am able to do this," shares Carolyn. "I enjoy giving money away. When you get a bunch of people giving, it helps a lot." Carolyn views her donations as a great investment. And while she appreciates the tax benefits, she has another, even stronger, motivation. "My main reason for giving is that I really like to help people."
By naming World Vision as a beneficiary on her IRA, Carolyn is assuring that she can continue to lend a helping hand long after her lifetime.
