All of us have a story to tell and a legacy to leave. Below are inspiring stories of faithful supporters like you. Each has included World Vision in their estate plan so they can continue to support World Vision after their lifetime - it's their legacy of love to the world's children.
William and Arline Jenkins. Ohio
part of the World Vision family since 1977
William and Arline have always had a heart for children. Early in their marriage, they cared for kids in the foster system, and after starting a family of their own, they still wanted to do more.
That's when a couple from their Bible study introduced William and Arline to World Vision. "We were very intrigued," says William. "It just seemed that with a large, growing family, this was a good way to help support other children who needed some help." William and Arline have been sponsoring children through World Vision ever since.
"Our sponsored children are like part of our family," says Arline, explaining how their kids and grandkids have grown up with World Vision as a big part of their lives. "We have taken a picture of all the children we have sponsored and made Christmas tree ornaments with them," elaborates William. Each year, these ornaments are some of the first ones their grandkids put on the tree. "It's such a thrill to see them excited about it," adds Arline.
When the Jenkins were ready to write their will, leaving something for their children was of primary importance. But they also began thinking about the legacy they would leave. "Our will is a last gesture as far as the things we have accumulated in our lives," explains William. "If we want it to be a reflection of what we have done in this world, then it should include the things we have participated in and given to. To me, that just makes sense," he adds.
That's why William and Arline decided to include World Vision in their will. "This is a way for us to make an ongoing gift after we are gone and know that the good work will continue," says Arline. "It gives me great joy to know we can help."
William agrees, urging others to take part in this joy. "I would encourage people to think about being part of World Vision-not just in their wills, but in their day-to-day budgets."
