All of us have a story to tell and a legacy to leave. Below are inspiring stories of faithful supporters like you. Each has included World Vision in their estate plan so they can continue to support World Vision after their lifetime - it's their legacy of love to the world's children.
Andrea Russell, Washington
part of the World Vision family since 2000
When Andrea was growing up, her parents were faithful supporters of World Vision. For as long as she can remember, they've always had a least one sponsored child. This ongoing example of generosity left a lasting impact on Andrea's life. When she graduated from college and decided to start giving on her own, it was only natural to follow her parent's example and sponsor a child through World Vision.
Today, Andrea is a mother of three, and watching her own children grow has increased her desire to help those who don't have the same opportunities as her kids. "Knowing that so many kids are in alarming situations that are out of their control breaks my heart," says Andrea.
And like her parents before her, she has also passed down the legacy of giving to her children. "They know all about our sponsored child," says Andrea, sharing how her children think of their sponsored child as a sibling.
It was because of their strong connection with their sponsored child that Andrea and her husband, Tim, began thinking about their future of giving. "We were struck by the question, 'What would happen if a tragedy struck and the whole family died?'" shares Andrea. "I didn't want to leave decisions about my life and kids to someone who didn't know me, such as the government," she adds. That's when the couple decided to write their will.
Since World Vision was already such a big part of their life, Andrea and Tim wanted it to be part of their legacy as well. So, they included a charitable gift to World Vision in their will?giving them peace of mind that they'll be able to help others even beyond their lifetimes.
"A big part for me is helping the kids by giving wherever the need is greatest, and World Vision will know that better than I would. I have a lot of trust in the organization," says Andrea. And by naming World Vision in their will, Andrea and her husband are not only blessing children in need around the world, they are also sharing with their children what it means to leave a lasting impact.
