Building a better world for children today and tomorrow....

All of us have a story to tell and a legacy to leave. Below are inspiring stories of faithful supporters like you. Each has included World Vision in their estate plan so they can continue to support World Vision after their lifetime - it's their legacy of love to the world's children.

I decided I needed to do something.
"I decided I needed to do something."

Laura Shaida, Pennsylvania
part of the World Vision family since 1974

Laura has always been passionate about helping children. And this is something that shows in the way she and her husband have lived their lives. In addition to raising two children of their own and caring for two foster kids, they also began sponsoring children through World Vision. "My husband and I were both teachers and weren't making a whole lot of money, so we started with just one child," explains Laura. But today, she and her husband sponsor three.

"Giving helps us scratch a particular itch?the desire to help children who really need help," says Laura. She shared the joy of sponsorship with her family and friends. Now, her daughter and son-in-law, as well as some of her friends, also sponsor kids. Through their enthusiasm, Laura and her husband are spreading a desire to give.

"We correspond with our sponsored children," shares Laura. "We delight in the letters we get back; they are so sweet." It is because of this special connection that Laura was moved to start planning for the future. "When you get to a certain age, you realize you are not going to live forever." As she thought about the future of the three children she sponsors, Laura decided that something needed to be done.

So, she included a bequest to World Vision in her will that will take care of her sponsored children and others like them after her lifetime. Making a difference even when she is no longer here is important to Laura. "I show people the pictures of my sponsored children and let them know that, through sponsorship, we have been able to impact not only the children we personally sponsor, but also the children in their immediate communities," shares Laura.

Knowing she will be able to make a lasting impact brings Laura joy. "It makes my heart feel good!" she exclaims.
